Suits & sizing
Should a bee suit be baggy?
Yes, a little. Our bee suits aren't designed to be tight-fitting. A slightly baggy fit lets you bend, crouch and reach, and keeps fabric away from your skin, where bees find it easier to sting through. Elasticated waists and cuffs (Velcro wrist and ankle adjusters on the PRO Series) gather the extra fabric, so a roomy suit still closes neatly.
What size bee suit should I buy, and what if I'm between sizes?
Choose your size wearing the clothes you'll have on underneath, and allow room to crouch and reach without the fabric going tight. Bees sting most easily where fabric is stretched over skin. Our size chart, in the product images and further down this page, is based mainly on height. If you're between sizes, try the larger one first: if you're between Large and XL, go for XL. Check the size options for the colour you want in our bee suits range, and see our bee suit buying guide for more help.
What size bee suit should I get if I'm tall, broad or muscular?
If you have a broad chest, a muscular or strong build or a long torso, go up one or two sizes from our height-based chart. For example, a 6ft beekeeper with a gym-goer's build may need 3XL or 4XL rather than the 2XL the chart suggests. If you're tall and slim, follow the chart by height, even if it's bigger than your usual clothes size.
Do you make XS or XXS bee suits? Can adults wear children's suits?
Yes. XS is a size option on our white and pink 3-layer suits, white cotton fencing suits and olive cotton suits, with or without gloves. The PRO Series goes down to XXS. Our green and olive 3-layer, yellow cotton, white cotton round hat and ApiAir suits start at Small. Children's suits are cut for children's proportions and aren't suitable for adults, even those under 5ft.
Will a replacement hood fit my bee suit?
A replacement hood will only fit if its zip matches the zip on your suit. Our adult 3-layer suits and jackets have a metal zip, so they need a metal-zip 3-layer hood. PRO Series suits, cotton and ApiAir suits and jackets, and children's suits, including children's 3-layer, have a plastic zip. Each hood listing says which zip it has and which suits it fits. If you're unsure, contact us before ordering.
Should I choose a round hat veil or a fencing veil?
A round hat veil holds the mesh well away from your face and gives a roomy, all-round view. A fencing veil is more compact and sits closer to the head. Both work; choose the one you find comfortable, and make sure the mesh never touches your face.
Can I machine wash my beekeeping suit?
Yes, the suit itself. Zip the veil off first, then wash the suit at 30°C on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent, without bleach or fabric softener. Dry it flat, and don't tumble dry or iron it. Hand wash veils and hoods: the 3-layer hood isn't machine washable, and the PRO Series veil is hand-wash only.
Are bee suits sting-proof?
No bee suit is completely sting-proof. A well-fitting suit greatly reduces stings, but a sting can still get through where fabric is pulled tight against the skin. Wear a suit with room to move, close every zip and wear gloves.
Returns
Can I return a suit that doesn't fit, or order two sizes?
Yes. Let us know within 14 days of receiving your order by filling in the returns form on our Returns & Exchanges page, and we'll send you the returns address. The item must reach us within 28 days of the original delivery date, unused and in its original condition and packaging. A £5.24 restocking fee per item is deducted for sizing returns, and return postage is your responsibility. If you're unsure of your size, you can order two sizes and return the one that doesn't fit; the fee applies to the item you return. This includes items bought with a discount code or multi-buy offer. See our refund policy.
Is there a restocking fee?
Yes. For standard returns or sizing issues, a £5.24 restocking fee per item is deducted from your refund. This includes items bought with a discount code or multi-buy offer. Faulty or incorrect items get a full refund with no restocking fee.
What can't be returned?
Items bought from our SALE page (clearance stock), personalised clothing, custom or made-to-order products, and items sold as Seconds or Bargain Deals are non-returnable. Items bought with a discount code or as part of a multi-buy offer aren't sale items, so they can be returned for sizing in the usual way. See our refund policy.
How do I start a return?
Fill in the returns form on our Returns & Exchanges page and we'll send you the correct returns address. Pack the item safely and include your name, order number and the email address used at checkout inside the parcel. Once your return arrives, we'll check it and process your refund to your original payment method within 10 working days. Read the full refund policy for details.
Sizing Chart For Suits
Please note: Children's suits are specifically designed for children's body proportions and are NOT suitable for adults, even those under 5 feet tall, due to differing builds (e.g., chest, hips, thighs).
